The
medium texture I used was inspired by patterns made in the walls of Wang Shu's
Ningbo Museum, the light texture was inspired by the thick pillars used in
Seidler's home, and the dark texture was inspired by the concept "framed
views figure/ground".
The
three-tier design makes use of the site’s limited space, it is designed to hold
large masses of students and teachers, hence reducing congestion. The main decorative
feature is a circular vertical garden with low maintenance flowers blooming in
each season.
The second tier
consists of 3 thick pillars acting as vertical gardens, reinforcing the sustainability
theme, a stark contrast to the large concrete masses. They are drought tolerant
and produce herbs sold to raise funds for UNSW Environmental Society and other
societies.
